Follow the footsteps of the silk road on this exploration of Valencia's silk making heritage. To celebrate UNESCO's Silk Road project, journey into the Old Town where you'll visit the Higher Art of Silk Making Authority, established in 1477. The authority set the standards for silk making in the region. This unique museum traces the history of silk, housed in a stunning 15th century building. Then, stroll the Barri de Velluters, the Old Town neighborhood of velvet makers, established in 1465. Here, you'll browse a traditional Valencian silk shop that sells costumes used during the Falles festival. Continue to the Central Market where you'll browse the stalls, admire local produce, and enjoy a taste of “horchata,” a sweet tigernut drink. Finally, visit the Silk Exchange, an UNESCO World Heritage Site that once attracted European traders in search of Valencia's rich silk fabrics. Admire the building's stunning Mediterranean and Gothic architecture.
