After a brief flight from Hong Kong, you'll be met by your English-speaking guide at Beijing International Airport who'll escort you to the Regent Beijing Hotel, where you'll enjoy welcome drinks and some relaxation before heading to the Peking Duck Restaurant.
Today, you'll embark on an extensive coach tour that begins with a visit to Tiananmen Square, the largest city-center square in the world, and has long been a gathering place for locals and visitors alike. On the north side of the square is Tiananmen Gate (the Rostrum). You'll then explore the city's "hutongs"- a network of narrow lanes-by rickshaw or pedicab, providing an opportunity to meet with a local family who'll invite you into their kitchen to demonstrate how to make Chinese dumplings and serve you lunch. The evening's entertainment is a visit to the Acrobatic Show, in which gymnasts work together and perform a variety of routines to music. There are three types of routines; a 'balance' routine (where the focus is on strength, poise and flexibility), a 'dynamic' routine (which includes throws, somersaults and catches), and a 'combined' routine (which includes elements from both balance and dynamic).
Today's first stop is the Temple of Heaven, where you'll see locals doing their morning exercise and activity (e.g. Taichi, Kungfu, and Chinese chess). The famous Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests here is known for its unique architecture-no beams, cement, or iron nails, just 36 columns to support the temples weight. Next, you'll travel onto the Badaling Great Wall of China, a UNESCO world heritage site, where you'll no doubt marvel at its greatness. This is the best preserved section of Great Wall, and lies almost 80 km northwest from downtown Beijing. The highest watchtower at Badaling, standing on a hilltop, can be reached by a steep climb, just like "climbing a ladder to heaven". The landscape of the Badaling Great Wall changes every season, with the green valleys of Spring, a vast and hazy vista during Autumn, and white, snow covered peaks in winter.
Today marks the end of your journey. You'll be met at the hotel by your guide who'll escort you from your hotel for your flight to Taipei, where you'll be transferred to Keelung Port to board your ship. Welcome onboard.
