Explore the medieval city of Nantes, the former capital of the Dukes of Brittany and gateway to the Atlantic for colonial sugar, rum, cotton, and slave trade. Begin your excursion with a panoramic drive, arriving to the St. Pierre Cathedral with its Gothic architecture. Then pass through the quarter of the Ile Feydeau, with mansions belonging to the traders of the 18th century, and the Place Graslin, home to a classical theater. Then, get to know the city on foot, as you head to Saint Anne Hill for an excellent, panoramic view. Walk across the drawbridge to the courtyard of the Duke’s Castle, which offers the double aspect of a medieval fortress and Renaissance architecture. You are then free to roam the town on your own – getting acquainted with the city center, shopping, or relaxing at a café – before your return drive.
Drive through the city center, viewing its Gothic-style St. Pierre Cathedral and 18th-century mansions in the quarter of the Ile Feydeau.
