Interview of Hotel Director Fred Bubner
Q: Where were you born and how did you get into this career?
I was born in Pforzheim, Germany. Due to my father’s job, I traveled quite a bit when I was a kid. This introduced me to the hospitality industry and made me realize at a young age that it would be the right profession for me.
Q: Did you always have a passion for travel?
Yes, I had a passion for travel from a young age.
Q: What are the qualities you value in the Azamara brand?
The unique identity of Azamara. What sets us apart is how we incorporate unique itineraries with unforgettable destination immersion experiences.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
I cannot really compare one day to the other, but that’s the beauty of it. It comes with the nature of working on a ship and having to adapt to situations that are out of the ordinary.
Q: What’s your favorite Azamara itinerary?
Norway is right at the top. I’ve done it many times, but I’m still blown away by the beauty of the untouched nature. We have just completed a voyage there where we met our new sister, the Pursuit.
Q: Is there a motto you live by?
To continuously live my life by adhering to my principles.
Q: How do you spend your free time onshore?
If it’s a new port or a new place, I definitely like to explore the destination. If it’s a place I’ve been before, I usually go out for a nice traditional local lunch.
Q: What do you like most about your job, and what personal qualities make you good at what you do?
It’s the unique lifestyle and the ability to combine my own passion for traveling with the job that I love. When it comes to qualities, I am a very detail-oriented and organized person.
Q: What’s on your playlist?
Depends on the mood. I love classic music just as much as rock music. When I was younger, I went to a lot of rock concerts. I used to work for a catering company at a large concert hall in Munich, where I was able to take in one concert after the other. It was nice.
Q: What has been your favorite AzAmazing evening?
I would say Riverdance in the Gaiety theatre in Dublin. It is the home theatre of the Riverdance Group and seeing them perform in their own beautiful theatre was stunning!
