Meet your guide at the pier and head to the center of Tokyo where your exploration begins in royal fashion. Continue on to the city’s most historic Buddhist temple, Senso-ji, which also happens to be one of its most colorful. Even arriving is a vibrant experience as you amble down Nakamise Street where local merchants and artisans clamor for your attention. Stop to partake in a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and learn about this ritual’s important place in local culture. Afterwards, return to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Board the bullet train bound for Hakone, a natural wonderland and a favorite getaway among locals. Famed for its hot springs and views of Mount Fuji, Hakone is home to a spectacular outdoor museum. Stroll among striking sculptures that unite seamlessly with the majestic views on all sides. Take a break to soak those tired toes in one of Hakone’s soothing geothermal springs. Later, visit Owakudani, an active thermal zone of bubbling pools and sulfur fumes. Try Kuro Tamago—nothing more than a boiled egg, however, a chemical reaction with the thermal waters causes the shell to turn black. Interesting, to say the least. Lunch today is served at the local hotel restaurant.
