In Search of Orangutans in Borneo  

Upon arrival at the port in Singapore, you’ll be escorted to the airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival, meet your guide and transfer to your hotel where you can check in, freshen up and relax before regrouping later this afternoon for your Mari Mari culture tour and dinner.

This morning, fly to Sandakan, where you’ll be met by your guide and head directly to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Enjoy a walk through the rainforest for “feeding time,” before continuing to the nursery for young orangutans. Then, proceed to the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn about efforts for protecting the world's smallest bear. After lunch, embark on a speedboat journey up the Kinabatangan River to the multiple award-winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge. Keep a lookout for a variety of wildlife and birds, and—if you're lucky—shy Bornean Pygmy Elephants. It’s then time for your first river safari followed by a candlelit buffet dinner overlooking the river.

Today, after a light breakfast, you’ll set out at 5:30am for a misty jungle tour on a morning river cruise the Kelenanap Ox-Bow Lake in search of waking wildlife and birds that are most active in the morning, before returning to the lodge for a full breakfast, followed by an educational walking tour along the lodge's Hornbill Boardwalk with the in-house naturalist. You’ll then return to the Lodge for free time to enjoy spa treatments, learn Batik Painting, relax by the pool, or various other leisure activities offered here. After afternoon tea, you’ll head back out onto the river once again, in search of more wildlife.

After breakfast, return to Sandakan by boat, and enjoy a quick lunch before proceeding to the airport for your flight to Kuala Lumpur, where you’ll be escorted to your hotel before embarking on a culinary tour, sampling local favorites, starting in the Hutong Food Court for a taste of siew bao, and chicken curry puff. From here it’s a short stroll to Jalan Alor, packed with rows of street-side restaurants, or “mamaks,” and busy tables of locals. Enjoy dim sum and grilled satay as you make your way to SK Corner, a popular mamak, for a taste of paper dosa. Wash it all down with a glass of Teh Tarik, a popular milk-tea. Your evening ends back at your hotel.

This morning, after breakfast, you’ll be escorted to the airport in Kuala Lumpur for your onward flight home.
