A Playground For Water Lovers

Locally, Arica is known as a surfing haven. With its year-round warm, sunny climate and beaches located steps from the town center, Arica is ideal for experienced surfers or those just learning to catch a wave. More than 20km of beaches mean there are plenty of places to soak up the sun, enjoy a refreshing dip, or hang 10.

Beyond the beach, Arica has plenty more to offer. Its most distinguishing characteristic is Morro de Arica, a steep, tall hill rising 139 meters above sea level. Once a place of refuge for Peruvian troops defending the city, it’s now one of the area’s most popular attractions, with its sweeping views of the coast and the countryside. Another noteworthy historic site is the Catedral de San Marcos, a Catholic church that was built in the 1870s and was designed by Gustave Eiffel (yes, that Eiffel.)

Stroll through Plaza Colón, the colorful heart of the city, where locals come to celebrate, to browse bustling market stalls, or to simply relax in the sun. At night, the square is the place to go to enjoy live music, dancing, and socializing.
